Advanced Dental Technology at McMullin Dental Care

At McMullin Dental Care in Monroe, Michigan, Dr. Maria McMullin and our team use modern dental technology to support accurate diagnoses, efficient treatment, patient comfort, and high-quality restorative care. From detailed images that help you better understand your oral health to digital systems that streamline dental restoration, we thoughtfully incorporate technology into the care we provide.

Our goal isn’t to use advanced equipment for technology’s sake. We select tools that can enhance the patient experience and help us plan and perform treatment with precision. Here are some of the technologies you may encounter when visiting our Monroe dental office.

Digi-Doc X90 Intraoral Cameras

Seeing a dental concern for yourself can make it much easier to understand what your dentist is describing. The Digi-Doc X90 intraoral camera is a compact imaging device that lets our team capture detailed views inside your mouth.

Unlike a traditional examination mirror, an intraoral camera can display enlarged images of individual teeth and other oral structures on a screen. These images can help us document and explain concerns such as cracks, worn restorations, areas of decay, or changes in the gums and teeth.

For patients, this technology can make dental appointments more informative. Instead of simply hearing that a tooth requires attention, you may be able to see the area being discussed and better understand why Dr. McMullin is recommending a particular treatment. Images can also provide useful documentation for monitoring changes over time.

Primescan and iTero Intraoral Scanners

Traditional dental impressions have historically required patients to bite into trays filled with impression material. Digital dentistry provides another approach.

We use both Primescan and iTero intraoral scanners to capture highly detailed digital information about the teeth and mouth. A handheld scanner is moved around your teeth to collect images that are combined to create a digital representation of your smile.

Digital scanning can improve the patient experience by eliminating conventional impression material for many applications. The resulting digital models can also provide precise information for planning and creating various dental restorations and appliances.

Because the information is captured digitally, Dr. McMullin can review detailed representations of the teeth directly on a screen. This technology supports a more streamlined workflow while helping our team plan treatment around each patient’s unique dental anatomy.

Primemill and SpeedFire for Same-Day Crowns

A dental crown traditionally requires multiple appointments, a temporary restoration, and a waiting period while a dental laboratory fabricates the permanent crown. Our office has invested in technology that allows us to complete eligible crown treatments much more efficiently.

Our office uses Primemill and SpeedFire technology to create same-day crowns. After we prepare the tooth and collect digital information, we can design and fabricate the restoration right here in our office. Primemill precisely mills the planned restoration from a dental material selected for the case. SpeedFire is a specialized furnace that can be incorporated into the fabrication process for compatible ceramic restorations.

By bringing these steps into our office, we can provide qualifying patients with a completed crown in a single visit. This can eliminate the need to wear a temporary crown for weeks or return for a separate crown-placement appointment.

Not every clinical situation is identical, so Dr. McMullin will determine whether a same-day restoration is appropriate based on the condition of your tooth and your individual treatment needs.

Waterlase iPlus Laser Dentistry

The Waterlase iPlus expands the procedures our team can perform. This dental laser system combines laser energy with a water spray and can be used for a variety of hard- and soft-tissue applications when clinically appropriate.

Laser dentistry allows Dr. McMullin to work with precision in targeted areas of the mouth. Depending on the procedure, Waterlase technology may offer benefits such as a more comfortable treatment experience and efficient management of dental tissues.

As with any dental technology, the appropriate technique depends on the patient’s diagnosis and the procedure being performed. Dr. McMullin can explain when Waterlase iPlus is suitable and how its use fits into your individualized treatment plan.
